Disclaimer: I started writing this a few episodes into season 2, however my impressions of the show span the whole thing so they apply to this season too! Masha: Masha gets renamed Mini-Mew. I saw the original Tokyo Mew Mew when I was about 11 as one of the very first anime I watched and it had me UTTERLY in its grip. Since then, as I grew up, I became more aware of just how cheesy it was and poked fun of it with the teenage/young adult sense of "ha ha, silly 11 year old me for liking something like this"... I wondered why I liked it so much.

The characters of Toyko Mew Mew are the really great thing about this anime. Although at fist it seems everyone just has their one trait (rich, nerdy, childish or loner) as the story progresses everyone has a deeper side to show. our heroine, Ichigo, is a girl most of us can symathyse with, unlike many leads, she's not wet blanket Mary-Sue, she's clumsy, funny and passionate, one is always pleased to see her win through. Of course I couldn't go through a character review without mentioning the greatest villain I've ever seen in an anime! Kisshu the inter-dimensional hovering elvin alien is hilarious, flirty and evil is always a winning combination, I found myself cheering every time he made his entrance in each episode! Undoubtedly, the characters get right into your heart. That all begins to change though as Tokyo Mew Mew starts to carve out its own identity. Even the battles themselves become a bit more sophisticated and unlike many similar shows like Sailor Moon, it doesn’t always feel like I am watching the same battles recycled over and over in every episode. While I wouldn’t say the magical action and special effects are amazing or even all that good, by the end they were far more impressive and interesting than most series of this type. a b 東京ミュウミュウ. In 2003, a sequel manga, Tokyo Mew Mew a la Mode, began serialization. It was written by Mia Ikumi, with Reiko Yoshida not returning, and starred a new protagonist named Berry Shirayuki/Mew Berry. At first, A la Mode was not warmly received by fans, who disliked its fast pace and the replacement of Ichigo as the main character. These days, the sequel is remembered more fondly, if still not as fondly as the original, and many fans have expressed a wish for it to be adapted into an anime someday.

Dialogue is changed, sometimes for an unknown reason, leading to complete plot changes and the creation of many plot holes. One example of this is having Corina (Minto) telling Zoey that Kikki (Bu-Ling) lived in a homeless shelter and episodes later, showing her home and her siblings. They added a line from Corina saying that it was something that they all assumed to be true, but since it was her that said it to make Zoey feel guilty for telling Kikki to "go home", it was obvious that this was done due to the English dubbers not watching ahead and straying away from the original script. Even the environmental nature of the premise is pretty dark and sadly even more relevant in today's world! A lot of this was present in similar series like it at the time, too. As a gold-standard of magical girls, and a big influence on this series, Sailor Moon had a lot of dark moments too! Zakuro is offered a leading role in a movie in Hollywood, but this would require her to move to America. She has not decided whether to take the job or not, but she tells Ichigo that the girls still know nothing about saving the Earth and that she is losing patience with them. Meanwhile, Quiche learns that the conditions on his planet have gotten worse and that he must hurry to find the mew aqua so he can save his people. The girls also renew their search for mew aqua, however when the aliens appear, Zakuro refuses to transform. Mew Mint is hurt while protecting Zakuro, but Zakuro does nothing. After the battle at the café, Ichigo complains to Ryou who acts indifferent. The girls decide to confront Zakuro about her behavior. Masha leads them to a church where they find Zakuro with Quiche. When Ichigo's father finds out that she has a boyfriend, he does not approve. He demands that Masaya defeat him in a kendo match before he will allow them to continue dating. Ichigo complains to her mother, who explains that her father loves her and just wants to protect her. Her mother also tells her that they too had to fight to be together when they were young. Ichigo rushes to stop the fight, reminding her father of the past and how her mother did the same thing for him. Though he does not want to face that his "little girl" is growing up, he grudgingly gives his approval of the relationship. I have no choice but to sink bank into the mindset of a pre-teen girl watching Tokyo Mew Mew New - and surely it's pre-teen girls that are intended to be watching.

When I first heard of the original uncensored version of this show, I heard a lot of things like, this is the next Sailor Moon, or this show does one of the best jobs at a philosophical approach to protecting nature, and how endangered animals, or how this show could have been as big as Naruto or Death Note. after watching the first episode, I was like, "WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS IS THE NEW SAILOR MOON!?"
