About this deal

I loved how all the different story lines going in this book all came together. The characters are amazing and the complex plot was just awesome. This is the first book by John Connolly that I have read -- I will most definitely be reading more. A lot more. Like everything this man has written. Just outstanding -- great writing and a creative, suspenseful plot. They planning on fronting this place themselves, or would they actually like to attract a clientele?” But then, Louis and Angel were unique unto themselves: criminals, lovers, killers of men, and crusaders for a cause that had no name beyond Parker’s own. They kept to their particular rhythm as they walked through life. But it's not just him, is it? It's Louis and Angel, a pair of gay henchmen, (but I mean "henchmen" in the best way), whose story has to be counted among the greatest love stories of all time, at least in my humble opinion. Their relationship is complicated and wonderful all at once, as is my love for them both.

I loved the villainy of this one particularly, especially in the ending because I half thought I knew what to expect, in style if not in substance, but actually our lovely (??!!??) Mr Connolly went a slightly different route into garnering our interest (nay obsession) for book 17 – I might have to have words. A creepy stalker book. Full of red herrings and you can feel the threat of the stalker. What is a person capable of doing to protect themselves? Murder? Connolly seamlessly weaves together a complex plot, consisting of multiple storylines, numerous characters, and various genres. I don’t usually tolerate the supernatural, but for this series I make an exception because it’s so well integrated and Connolly somehow makes it feel plausible. He also adds in bits of humor that had me laughing out loud. Twins Maisy and Duncan Mitcham were fifteen years old when their mother was taken away in an ambulance; only a matter of days later they were driven by their father to stay at Nightingales. Deep in the New Forest countryside, it was where their father had grown up; their grandmother lived there, but they didn’t much like her. She was a stiff and unemotional old woman who couldn’t be bothered with her grandchildren. Janice, the housekeeper, was Maisy and Duncan’s lifeline. She treated them as her own, lavishing affection on them both and baking them delicious cakes… It's Moxie Castin, the lawyer with a heart of gold and a soft spot for the Star of David, which plays such an important role in this story.Twins Maisy and Duncan Mitcham are 15 years old when the story begins and they are suddenly shipped off without any explanation to their grandmother’s house near the New Forest after their father has their mother admitted to an asylum. They are not told anything about their mother, or why she has gone and although they were not close to their mother, there is still a sense of loss and bewilderment that their father and grandmother, both distant and remote people, are ill equipped to deal with. The family take the stiff upper lip attitude to another level and certainly don’t believe in showing emotion or even love. The only bright light in the twin’s lives is Janice, their grandmother’s housekeeper. Without her, they would have floundered even more.

I plan like a lunatic! I find it very difficult to write without a plan, so I start with my “what if” question and go from there. I do a lot of reading and research, and slowly build up a bullet point plan, which is then expanded in to post it notes that I can shuffle around, which are then expanded into a chapter plan in a notebook…which then finally become the bones of my first draft. Overall, a nice fast paced thriller with some suspenseful, edge of the seat, moments. If you like stalkers out for revenge then you'll probably enjoy this one. This is the second book I’ve read by author J.A. Baker–and it won’t be my last! The Woman in the Woods really was the perfect psychological thriller. I can appreciate a mystery that has a slow burn. The kind that doesn’t immediately throw the answers at you. Where you have to wait and watch for the truth to unravel a little at a time. What sets these Charlie Parker thrillers apart from many other detective stories is the touch of the supernatural. In this latest in the series, a tree falls in the woods in Maine revealing the shallowly-buried remains of a young woman. Buried with her are a placenta and umbilical cord, so it appears she died in childbirth. But did her baby survive? Is it buried elsewhere?

John Connolly has written & created an interesting series starring PI Charlie Parker whose daughters look after him, not unlike his friends Louis & Angel and a pair of human bulldozers called the Fulci brothers.Read as much and as widely as you can! You’ll soak up the art of writing – spelling, grammar, sentence structure – without feeling as if you’ve been studying. Author Pet Corner! Ceasar, Hera, and Peg! Enjoyed this with some Irish pancakes on Shrove Tuesday and it was all the topping and filing I needed! Así empieza esta novela en la que Parker se verá metido en la búsqueda tanto de la identidad de la madre como del bebé si sobrevivió. Pero no va a ser el único que los busque What I really found interesting was the locations - the rural American settings, the towns by the roadside, the desert like dustbowl. The Jewish angle was an added layer of intrigue and that house in the woods? Oh my...It's all there.
