Calling from Front Bells

I have noticed that it is less likely for ringers of front bells to call touches than ringers of back bells; indeed some ringing masters give every impression of assuming that it is only if you ring a back bell that you are capable of being a conductor.

You most certainly can, however, call touches from front bells too, even when you are learning to call and conduct. You may need to just have a quiet word with the person running the ringing to let you get some practice - for example, when they ask if there are any requests for touches.

You can call the easiest touches for the following equally well from any working bell:
• Plain Bob Doubles,
• Plain Bob Minor,
• Stedman Doubles and
• Stedman Triples.

You can call an easy touch of
• Grandsire Doubles from the 3,
• Grandsire Triples from the 4.

You can call a quarter peal of
• Plain Bob Minor from the 4
• Grandsire Triples from the 4
• Yorkshire S Major from the 6

... amongst others of course!
